Introducing the SWR Wine List
As 2024 comes to a close, the Sustainable Wine Roundtable (SWR) is reflecting on a remarkable year of growth and impact. With the launch of our ‘Wine List,’ we are excited to present an overview of our ongoing work and new opportunities for members to collaborate with us in 2025.
A Look Back at 2024
This year has been transformative for SWR, thanks to the support and dedication of our members. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve achieved together:
- Bottle Weight Accord: Now has more than 20 participants, who between them make and sell nearly 2 billion bottles of wine.
- Standards Benchmarking: We developed the Global Reference Framework and scoring matrix, and conducted a pilot of seven standards.
- Sustainable Viticulture Protocol: A principles-based approach to drive reduction of chemical usage in the vineyard.
- Packaging Choice Framework: We are developing a tool to compare the relative sustainability characteristics of different packaging types.
- Labour Standards: We are engaging with appellations other groups to raise the importance of these issues and to drive change.
- Bottle Miles Calculator: A tool to enable informed decision-making about how to reduce carbon emissions in bottle purchasing and logistics choices.
- Retail Group: Brings together 15 of our retail members to drive efficiencies in communicating and working with the rest of the supply chain.
- Collaboration and outreach: Our new website allows collaboration between members. We communicate widely about our work and that of our members.
The Wine List: Tailored Opportunities to Engage
Just as a wine list guides your choices in a restaurant, our Wine List is designed to help you navigate SWR’s action areas and identify initiatives that align directly with your company’s priorities. It’s your guide to making impactful decisions—choosing projects that deliver change where it matters most
most to your business
From lightweight packaging to sustainable viticulture, each action area offers a targeted opportunity to address your specific sustainability goals while contributing to broader systemic change across the wine industry.
Investing in Impact
Our membership fees enable us to seed new ideas and initiatives. However, growing these projects into impactful industry solutions requires additional resources. Over the past year, many of our members have invested in our action areas, using them to advance their individual sustainability goals while contributing to industry wide change.
As we look ahead to 2025, we invite our members to share their sustainability priorities and how we can work together to achieve them. Take a moment explore our Wine List to discover the opportunities available to engage with SWR’s work and drive change in the wine industry.
