Jean-François Ott, domaines ott, on provence and Bandol winemaking and consumer trust

In this podcast interview, I had a chat with Jean-François Ott about what consumers want from his wines and winemaking practices, his suspicion of certification schemes and the idea of further transparency in the wine industry. That’s in the second half of the interview. In the first we chatted about experimentation in his winemaking and the history of Domaine Ott, which dates back to 1896. More on their history is here, and since 2004 the operation has been also part owned by champagne house Roederer.

Domaine Ott is known as a rose maker, but their Bandol red, largely Mourvedre based, is a very decent drop indeed, with serious ageing potential. We tried vintages back to 1974 and they were still fresh, highly drinkable and had aged incredibly well.
