On the route to net zero with VSPT

San Pedro, Tarapacá, Santa Helena, Leyda, Viñamar… these are just a few of the wine brands under Chilean VSPT Wine Group. The group is known not only as a leading global wine producer, with around 17 million cases of wine a year, but also for its long-standing commitment to sustainability.

What began as the 360º Sustentable program in 2010 has now evolved into an ambitious sustainability model divided into two areas: climate change and sustainable progress. The goal is to become net zero by 2050, with interim targets set for 2030, including Zero Waste to Landfill and a 40% reduction in carbon footprint intensity (Scopes 1, 2 and 3).

The company recently reported a 47% reduction in CO2 emissions intensity per litre of wine produced compared to its 2019 baseline, meeting its 2030 target five years ahead of schedule. This was largely achieved through a combination of efficiency and decarbonisation measures, such as reducing energy consumption, optimising production processes, minimising the use of agrochemicals, and switching to clean energy. All of VSPT’s industrial operations are powered with renewable energy, with 42% of renewable electricity is generated in-house through solar arrays and a biogas plant in Molina.

Carolina Gotuzzo, corporate affairs and sustainability director at VSPT, emphasises the role of collaboration and coordinated effort:

“These are ambitious goals that require an interdisciplinary effort among different company areas, as well as the commitment of our suppliers and strategic partners, who play a key role in achieving them.”
