The Bottle Weight Accord, 6 months later
In May 2024, the Sustainable Wine Roundtable (SWR) celebrated the six-month anniversary of the Bottle Weight Accord. To mark this milestone, SWR hosted a reflective webinar, gathering key voices from the industry to discuss progress, share member experiences, and outline the vision for the Accord’s next phase. Panellists included Simon Mason (The Wine Society), Emily Revell (Virgin Wines), and Nicolas Daspres (Terra Vitis), who shared practical insights gained from their efforts to reduce bottle weights over the past six months.
The discussion underscored the Accord’s expanding influence across the wine supply chain, engaging retailers and producers worldwide. By uniting the wine value chain, SWR is fostering critical conversations on practical implementation and building a collaborative network dedicated to meaningful environmental progress.
Moderated by SWR’s Research Director, Dr. Peter Stanbury, the conversation also explored the future of the Bottle Weight Accord. With companies joining from diverse regions and markets, the Accord aims to enhance collaboration across borders and sectors, driving a substantial reduction in the wine industry’s carbon footprint. This expansion promises to deepen the industry’s commitment to sustainability, paving the way for standardized, eco-friendly packaging practices globally.
