SWR Presents at the Alcohol Monopolies Conference
Dr. Peter Stanbury, SWR’s Research Director, recently spoke at conferences organized by two of our Scandinavian members, addressing urgent sustainability challenges in the wine sector.
Every two years, alcohol monopolies from Scandinavia, Canada, and the USA gather to address key challenges in the sector. This year, Systembolaget hosted in Stockholm, focusing on the growing impacts of climate change. Dr. Stanbury, as a keynote speaker, shared insights into the challenges facing the wine sector and SWR’s initiatives to tackle them. The event underscored the importance of collaboration to drive climate resilience across the industry.
“The world in which we all operate is evolving rapidly, and our aim is to discuss market development, our common climate challenge, public health, and responsible selling,” said Ann Carlsson Meyer, CEO of Systembolaget. “Together we represent a large market share, which brings both a great opportunity and a great responsibility to contribute to sustainable business.”
The following week, Dr. Stanbury presented at Alko’s supplier conference, where the focus was on sustainability in the wine value chain. Alko has prioritized biodiversity in vineyards and supports SWR’s Sustainable Viticulture Protocol (SVP), which aims to reduce chemical use significantly and foster regenerative practices that respect local terroir.
